Vopnafjörður  (65°45’16.47″N   14°49’36.62″W) is located in Northeast Iceland. It has a population of 530 people. The distance from Reykjavík is 620 km ( 385 miles ) if the north Iceland route is taken. The south Iceland route is a little longer at 770 km ( 478 miles ).

Services and leisure activities include restaurants, coffee house, waymarked hiking trails, swimming pool heated by a geothermal spring. The swimming pool is situated by the bank of the famous salmon river Selá. A fishing license in Hofsá, 9 hole golf course. The Burstafell folk museum which exhibits an old turf farm is only 25 km from Vopnafjörður.

Annual festival


The town festival “ Vopnaskak” takes place every year in the beginning of July with a wide range of activities for the whole family. Exhibitions showcasing handcraft and design, barbeque, cake buffet, dance, live music and much more.
