Located in the southern Icelandic highlands, Þórsmörk is a valley named after the Norse god Thor. It is situated between the glaciers Tindafjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. The Mýrdalsjökull glacier blocks the end of the valley. The river Krossá flows through the area, winding between the mountains. Þórsmörk is one of the most popular camping and hiking areas in Iceland. It is difficult to get to Þórsmörk by car, unless you have an SUV 4X4, as the river Krossá is unbridged, but there are regular bus trips. Usually mentioned as a top hiking trail in Iceland, Laugavegur or the hot spring route , a 55 km long trail between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmörk often hits the top list of hiking trails in Europe.
