Located in North East Iceland, close to Lake Mývatn, in the foothills of the volcanic mountain Námafjall, is the geothermal area of Hverarönd or Hverir. It has fumaroles, steam vents, boiling mud pots and mud pools. There are wooden observation platforms and well-marked walking trails. Do not cross the ropes marking the trails, as people have sustained serious burns doing this. There are short hiking trails from the hot springs to Námafjall Mountain and Námaskarð Pass.
