Located in Borgarfjörður, West Iceland, Hraunfossar is a series of small waterfalls formed by water flowing from the Hallmundarhraun lava field into the river Hvítá. Barnafoss is close to Hraunfossar. It is a waterfall with rapids, which descends with great force through a narrow gorge. According to a folktale, there used to be natural stone arc over Barnafoss. Two boys from a nearby farm took a shortcut over the stone arc and they fell into the water and drowned. Their grief struck mother had the stone arc destroyed to ensure no one else would face similar fate.
