Hengifoss, located in Hengifossá in the North East of Iceland close to the town of Egilstaðir, is the third highest waterfall in Iceland at 128 metres (420 feet). The cliff surrounding Hengifoss is colourful with red layers of clay visible between the basaltic layers which surround the waterfall. From Egilstaðir take road 931 and then 933, there is a carpark for the hiking trail to Hengifoss. The hiking trail is uphill about 2.5 km long. It can take up to one hour to walk there.
