Bakkagerði is a small 100-person village located in Borgarfjörður Eystri (65.541824, -13.817115) in east Iceland. The fjord is short and wide and there are many beautiful mountains. The mountains consist of lipid and basalt which make them really beautiful and colorful. Álfaborg ,not far from the village, is considered a home to the queen of the elves in Iceland. Many places are also related to stories about elves and human relations, e.g. Church clan which is the church of the elves in Borgarfjörður eystri. Bakkagerði’s main business sectors are agriculture and small-scale fishing.

You can also get accommodation in a special house at the farm Borg in Njarðvík which is 10 km from Borgarfjörður Eystri. Camping sites (65.524000, -13.808611) can be found just west of Álfaborg. Annual Festival
Bræðslan ( is a music festival that has been held annually in Borgarfjörður Eystri since 2005. Many of Iceland’s best-known musicians perform. The festival is held annually in July.
